What is MBBS

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). MBBS is a professional degree awarded by medical colleges and universities. This is a degree course. Just passing MBBS doesn’t mean you have to become a doctor. Similarly, in medical and surgical medicine, as the name suggests, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery are two different degrees. They are taught together in one area.

MBBS is a medical degree course of 5 years duration. Also, 5 years of study followed by 6 months internship. A total of 5.5 years of study is required to complete MBBS. The full form of MBBS indicates that this degree comes with a set of degrees in medicine and surgery. If you want to further, you can opt for more specializations than just MBBS.

MBBS means Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. MBBS admission is based on the rank obtained in NEET exam. Therefore, NEET Exam is a very competitive program. Every year lakhs of students appear for NEET exam for MBBS admission.

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS

The MBBS NEET exam is conducted by the National Medical Commission (NMC) at the All India level. Eligibility criteria to appear in the exam only after completing your 12th exams. After 12th you are ready to appear for NEET which is considered for MBBS admission. The application of ineligible candidates will be canceled at any stage of NEET examination. MBBS Admission Eligibility Criteria are given below.

  • To get MBBS admission in India, candidates first pass 12th class from a recognized board.
  • To opt for the MBBS course, students must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology in their 11th and 12th classes.
  • Candidates must secure minimum 50% marks in the qualifying examination for MBBS admission in India. For SC, ST and OBC category, the minimum marks required for MBBS admission is 40%.
  • Candidates must be at least 17 years of age to take admission in MBBS in India. Upper age limit is 25  for MBBS admission
