The complete form of IB is “Intelligence Bureau”. It is India’s domestic intelligence agency, which is used to gather intelligence from within India and conduct intelligence and counter-terrorism operations. The IB was formed in 1887 to monitor Russian troops deployed in Afghanistan. It is known as the oldest organization in the world. It was reconstructed in 1947 by the Government of India at the time of independence.

Functions of the Intelligence Bureau (IB)

  •  The director of the IB is always the Indian Police Service officer or IPS officer.
  • The life of an IB officer is full of risks and many compromises.
  • The IB facilitates communication of intelligence between the police and various other Indian intelligence agencies.
  • Indian diplomats and judges are given necessary clearances from the security point of view before taking the oath.
  • It has the power to conduct wiretapping without a warrant.
  • It works tirelessly to defeat any security threat or terrorist attack.
  • The IB also includes subsidiary branches known as the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB). They are headed by an officer in the grade of Joint Director or above at the State level or Deputy Directors in case of small SIBs.

Eligibility Criteria for IB ACIO

The following criteria must be met by the post seeker to be eligible to apply for the post.

  • The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • The candidate seeking the post must have graduated from a recognized university in India.
  • A candidate has basic knowledge and knowledge of computers.
  • The candidate’s age should be between 18 to 27 years.
  • Five years relaxation for candidates belonging to SC (Scheduled Caste) and ST (Scheduled Tribe) categories.
  • Three years relaxation for candidates belonging to OBC (Other Backward Category) category.
  • The department has provided three years of regular and continuous services to the candidates up to the age relaxation of 40 years.

Selection Process of IB ACIO

  • Candidates applying for the exam must appear for the Tier 1 exam.
  • The minimum cut-off of the examinations is prescribed by the recognized body.
  • Applicant must qualify by scoring minimum cut-off marks to be selected for the second round examination.
  • Only those candidates who qualify for the Tier 1 exam will be allowed to appear in the Tier 2 exam.
  • The aggregate performance of Tier 1 and Tier 2 will be considered for each candidate’s section criteria.
  • Based on the overall interpretation of each candidate, the merit list is further formulated.
