The full form of ASI is  Assistant Sub-Inspector, which is a popular police post. The ASI has several roles and responsibilities to play in maintaining law and order in society. In a police station, an ASI has a specific duty. Ranks of ASI are marked by a single star with patterned straps surrounded by a blue and red ribbon. 

Assistant Sub-Inspector (A.S.I) post is below the rank of Sub-Inspector (S.I.) and an ASI post is above the constables.

How to become an ASI Officer?

In India, like any other position in the police force, an exam is required. To become an ASI, one must clear an examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission. 

Eligibility Criteria for the ASI exam

The following eligibility criteria are full fill the candidate to become an assistant sub-inspector.

• The age limit should be between 20 and 25, with a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST and a 3-year relaxation for OBC
• Education qualification:: The candidate should complete a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks.
• Indian citizens are required to apply
• Applicants should have a height of 170 cm and a chest measurement of 80-85 cm

Medical Test For ASI Officer

An ASI candidate must crack the medical test, following are the required medical test for the students:

• Applicants must have at least 6/6 distance vision in the better eye and 6/9 distance vision in the worse eye.
• Candidates should not have disabilities such as knock knee, flat foot, a squint in the eyes, etc.
• The candidate does not use glasses/lenses on the eyes

ASI Exam Pattern

•  ASI qualification has a written exam that consists of two papers with 200 points each pair consist100 Marks. 
• Paper 1 covers general reasoning, general awareness, quantitative aptitude, and English in two hours.
• In Paper 2, there are 200 questions with a negative marking of 0.25 marks, and the time limit is 2 hours.
• As well as passing the written examination with a minimum of 55 percent, qualified candidates will participate in a physical endurance test and an interview.
• SSC CPO Paper-1 is the first stage of the examination, and PET tests follow in stages 2 and 3.
• Each incorrect answer deducts one quarter-point in the MCD-based test, which is administered in both Hindi and English.

Role & Responsibilities of ASI

Every candidate must aware of the role and responsibilities of an ASI before becoming in the field. 

• ASIs are responsible for carrying out orders from sub-inspectors or higher-ranking police officers
• It is the ASI’s responsibility to maintain law and order
• Assisting the ASI is also the responsibility of Police Outposts (also known as “phari”) and Investigation Centers
• Additionally, they handle GD tasks
• In police stations, ASI is mainly responsible for armories, and in training centers, they work for Chief Drill.
